Den 40ende internasjonale kongress i Berlin vil bli holdt 14—17 september 2011 i Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften Markgrafenstraße 38 10117 Berlin.

Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften er vitenskapsakademiet i de tyske statene Berlin og Brandenburg. Som ordet Wissenschaft, på tysk omfatter både naturvitenskap og humaniora. Bygningen ligger sentralt i Berlin. Akademiet ble konstituert i 1993, og er den siste i en serie av tidligere Berlin akademier, inkludert den prøyssiske vitenskapsakademi og DDRs tyske akademi i Berlin. Akademiet huser en rekke langsiktige forskningsprosjekter, inkludert Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum, Altägyptisches Wörterbuch, papirene til Alexander von Humboldt, og en vitenskapelig utgave av verk av Ludwig Feuerbach.

Bygningen ble oppført 1901-1903 av arkitekt Paul Kieschke og erstattet en eldre barokk bygning. De tilstøtende bygningene som ligger på Jägerstraße ble bygget 1936-1939 og den på Taubenstraße var er tidligere næringsbygg som ble endret 1924 til 1926 og i 1938. Hovedbygningen ble rekonstruert i 1938-1940.

Bygningen der kongressen skal være

Akademiet deler ut en rekke vitenskapelige utmerkelser, blant dem de følgende to medaljer:

  • Den Helmholtz Medal — deles ikke mer enn en gang hvert annet år til en person som har gjort signal bidrag til humaniora, samfunnsvitenskap, naturvitenskap, eller til medisin
  • Den Leibniz Medal — deles ut til enkeltpersoner eller grupper for «signal tjenester» for vitenskapen [1]


Tema

Tema for kongressen vil være «Pharmacy and Book».

Sitat With the topic »Pharmacy and Book«, the 40th International Congress for the History of Pharmacy has chosen a central theme, showing that books are one of the most important sources of the historiography of pharmacy. The focus of the lectures to be held can be on books which have a special significance in pharmacy such as pharmacopoeia, medication lists, taxes, books on receipes, education, herbs and flora as well as handbooks and dictionaries. Books on pharmaceutical history will be looked on especially. A special emphasis on books about the history of the pharmaceutical industry respectively of works published by pharmaceutical producers and wholesalers. Last, but not least, apothecaries as authors of technical literature as well as other literary works shall be introduced in lectures, as well as the role of pharmacies and apothecaries in poetry and fiction. Within the lectures, the genesis of these books will be discussed, an analysis of the contents will be given along with the comparison of different works as well as decoration and configuration, illustration and didactic aspects.
